A community-led initiative to protect the former Sky Haven Elementary School property.

On August 2nd, 2023, approximately 50 community members attended a meeting at McNair High School with DeKalb County School District board member Deirdre Pierce (District 3), Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton, and COO Erick Hofstetter.
The community presented decades long evidence of minimal to no maintenance of the property, environmental degradation, illegal dumping, and general neglect. Our request to DCSD:
The community respectfully requests that the Dekalb County School District deed the Sky Haven property to Dekalb County (Parks and Recreation) so that it may be properly maintained and protected to benefit surrounding communities to its fullest potential.

Deirdre Pierce, District 3 School Board Vice-Chair, has assisted us in scheduling a community input meeting with DeKalb County Public Schools’ leadership about the Sky Haven property. The new Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton and District 3 Board member Pierce will be in attendance.
